Vic: Finance minister endorses Kennett for Canberra

MELBOURNE, Aug 5 AAP - Federal Finance Minister John Fahey has offered a lavish endorsement
to Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett if he ever decides to take up federal politics.

"If Jeff decides he wants to come to Canberra, then clearly his talents will be an enormous
enhancement to Canberra...he is a very talented person," Mr Fahey told the Herald Sun.

He dismissed criticism within the Liberal Party that Mr Kennett would have difficulty
making the transition to federal politics.

"He's demonstrated resilience and commitment that will carry him in good stead whatever he
does, including if that (federal politics) should be his wish and an opportunity should arise
in Canberra - but that's his decision," he said.

Mr Kennett has consistently dismissed speculation about a shift to Canberra, but has
admitted to being sounded out to make a play for the prime ministership.

Mr Fahey said he was an extraordinary leader.
