NSW: Glenbrook inquiry adjourned until Monday
SYDNEY, Feb 17 AAP - A potential conflict of interest today forced the adjournment
until Monday of an inquiry into the Glenbrook rail disaster.
Seven people died when a commuter train slammed into the back of the Indian Pacific
train 400 metres from Glenbrook station in the New South Wales Blue Mountains on December
2 last year.
Legal counsel for the Rail, Bus and Tram Union (RBTU) - representing both the co-drivers
of the Indian Pacific involved in the fatal smash and rail signallers - called for the
adjournment this afternoon.
Harry Bauer, for the RBTU, said he would be seeking advice from outside senior counsel
on the possibility of a conflict of interest or evidence between drivers David Willoughby
and Peter Marshall and the signallers.
Mr Bauer said a solicitor representing the National Rail Corporation raised the potential
conflict.
Commissioner Acting Justice Peter McInerney granted the adjournment saying there could
possibly be a conflict of interest.
The hearing resumes 10am (AEDT) on Monday.
